Hongya Cave(Hong ya dong): A Fantastical Night View Resembling the World of “Spirited Away”

Hongyadong (also known as Hongyan Cave, Shenxian Cave, or Hongya Gate), officially called the Hongyadong Folk Customs Scenic Area, is a tourist destination combining sightseeing, leisure, and vacation experiences. Located at No. 88, Jialingjiang Binjiang Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, it sits at the confluence of the Yangtze River and Jialing River, bordered by Liberation Monument Cangbai Road to the north and Binjiang Road to the south. The area spans 11 levels, reaches a height of 79 meters, and covers a total area of 31,500 square meters.

The Hongyadong Folk Customs Scenic Area consists of four main sections: the Zhixianhe Bar Street, Tianchengxiang Bayu Culture Street, Feast Food Street, and an Exotic-themed Urban Balcony. The complex is built in the traditional Bayu architectural style, featuring stilted houses (diaojiaolou) that cling to the cliffs. Utilizing mountain construction techniques like terraced platforms, staggered layers, and cliffside integration, the buildings create a breathtaking spectacle when illuminated at night, earning it the title of a “must-see landmark in the Mountain City.”

Hongyadong is situated at No. 88, Jialingjiang Binjiang Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. It enjoys a humid subtropical monsoon climate, characterized by dry springs, hot summers, rainy autumns, and mild winters.
